Full school year (August - May)
Students must start the course at the beginning of the fall semester.
First semester will be spent in the classroom. Second semester, students will spend two (2) days a week at a community classroom site and three (3) days a week in the classroom.
Credits:
10 credits per semester with a passing grade.
Course description
Students in the ROP Fire Control Technician Course will acquire core knowledge and skills in preparation for a satisfying career in the fire service. They will develop the operational concepts and manipulative skills needed when responding to events, such as: structure fires, natural disasters, hazardous material incidents, search and rescue, terrorism, and by providing medical aid to the sick and injured. During this training, there will be an emphasis on personal safety, the safety of fellow workers and the general public. Successful students will emerge from this course with overall knowledge of Fire Fighting and steps needed to proceed with a career.

ENROLLMENT ELIGIBILITY
High school juniors and seniors who are age 16 or older are eligible to enroll in this course.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
Students must provide their own transportation to class. High School juniors and seniors must request this course through their Counseling Office during their school's course selection period (January - February).
